Daybreak Cropping’s Advisory Committee members bring a range of experience to the business. The Advisory Committee is as follows.
Dan Mangelsdorf - Independent - Chairman
Dan Mangelsdorf is Chairman of the Warakirri Cropping Trusts, a role he has held since July 2014. In addition to his role with Warakirri, Dan is also a board member of Graincorp, where he chairs the Business Risk Committee and is a member of the Board Audit Committee. Dan owns and operates farming interests in New South Wales, and is an experienced company director with agricultural, supply chain, international trade and risk management expertise.
Jim Mckay - MD Warakirri Asset Management - Member
Jim joined Warakirri in the role of Managing Director in March 2017, with over 25 years’ experience across the financial services industry. Prior to joining Warakirri, Jim was Head of Distribution for Franklin Templeton Investments, Managing Director of the wealth management division of Challenger, the CEO of Boss Software International, and Head of Distribution for ING Investment Management and a member of their Asian Leadership Team. Jim has a Bachelor of Economics, a Post Graduate Degree in Finance and Investments, and an MBA from the Melbourne Business School at the University of Melbourne. Jim is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Graduate of their Company Directors program. Jim is also a member of the investment committees of two charitable institutions.
Jane Tongs - Independent - Member
Jane is a Non-executive director and has held the position since 2010. Jane is a corporate adviser. She is chairman of Netwealth Holdings Limited and Lend Lease Australian Prime Property Fund Investors Committee and is a Director of Australian Energy Market Operator Limited, Cromwell Property Group and Catholic Church Insurances. Jane has an Executive MBA from the Melbourne Business School, a Business degree from RMIT and is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants. Jane is also a member of the Institute of Company Directors. Jane has over 20 years’ experience as a senior executive and company director in both private and government owned infrastructure, funds management, insurance and property businesses. Previously, Jane was a Financial Services Litigation Partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Belinda Turner, Commercial Manager
Belinda joined Daybreak Cropping in April 2018. She previously held senior finance and management roles in the Australian offices of global agricultural commodity trading houses COFCO International & Nidera. Belinda has an Executive MBA from Melbourne Business School, a Bachelor of Commerce (Liberal Studies) from the University of Sydney and is a Chartered Accountant. Originally from Inverell in Northern NSW, she maintains an involvement in her family’s mixed farming enterprise.
Stephen Buchanan, Operations Manager - East
Stephen is an experienced large-scale farm manager with a depth of knowledge across a number of cropping systems and a focus on investor returns. After roles with Pacific Seeds and other agricultural ventures, Stephen joined Warakirri in 1998 as Farm Manager of Cowabbie/Mukoora near Ardlethan in NSW, which he managed for 15 years, before moving to Goondiwindi to manage the Warakirri Cropping’s Willaroo property for 5 years. He left Willaroo in 2017, to take up an Operational Support role across the two businesses, Warakirri Cropping and Daybreak Cropping. In July 2018 Stephen was appointed Operations Manager – East at Daybreak Cropping.
Troy Bungey , Operations Manager - West
Troy joined Daybreak Cropping in December 2020 as Operations Manager - West. Originally growing up in the Great Southern of Western Australia on his family’s mixed cropping and livestock property, which is still in the family. He has held various agronomy, grain production and institutional asset management positions over his 20 plus year career in agriculture across Western Australia. Troy has a Bachelor of Business (Agriculture) from Curtin University, initially spending 10 years in agronomy in the Esperance region, before taking a National Grain Production Manager position with an ASX listed business. His most recent role was Regional Asset Manager for an institutional farmland funds investor doubling the investment footprint in the Western Australia wheatbelt region during his time with the company.
